Lowell Thomas More passed away peacefully on December 18,2022 at Northern Montana Hospital.
Tom was born July 22, 1938, in Havre, Montana, to Lowell and Helen More and grew up in Cut Bank, the oldest of five children. Tom married Carol Childs More in 1963 in Great Falls and they lived in Choteau before moving to Havre, where they raised their three children, Mikell, Jennifer and Tom.
He served in the Montana Air National Guard for six years and was a proud Carroll College alumni, going on to earn a Doctor of Optometry degree at Illinois College of Optometry. With a career that spanned 57 years, he carried the longest standing optometric license in the state of Montana.
Tom belonged to several service organizations in his younger years, building many friendships. He often reminisced about the memorable trips to Fiji and Hawaii with the Havre crew. He was a sports enthusiast but baseball was his best-loved and, as a lifelong Yankees fan, he and Carol took a bucket list trip to New York to attend a game at Yankee stadium. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, had a love-hate relationship with golf, but was happiest in the yard meticulously caring for his lawn, flowers and tomato plants.
Tom created beautiful stained glass artworks, was an avid fly tyer, and a talented cook known for his famous cabbage rolls, canned pickles and Thanksgiving gravy. He appreciated a good meal, but his absolute favorite was Carol's apple pie for dessert.
Tom was always "early to bed, early to rise," and his morning was not complete without tackling the daily crossword puzzle. He spent hours poring over maps learning about places near and far and in his elder years enjoyed a back-road trip with his son, Tom, or special buddy Ben. He cherished watching his grandkids play sports. He always appreciated a good joke and will be remembered for his clever wit, love of family and endless supply of flashlights.
Surviving family members include his wife, Carol; son, Tom (Kerrie) More of Kalispell; daughter Mikell (Greg) Minnick of Havre; daughter Jennifer (Rich) Mickelson of Columbus; grandchildren, Lindsey (Ben) Mader, Brennan (Nakkita) Hanson, Camryn and Keaton Mickelson, Nik (Grace) Mader and Chad (Tia) Minnick, and great-grandchildren, Chason, Peyton, Dean, Athea, Dante, Orion and Drako. Sister Marilyn Kun of Kalispell; brothers Jim of Helena and John of Oregon, and sister-in-law Marion of Kalispell, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dick, and best grand-dog, Hondo.
At his request no services are planned.
Memorials are suggested to Havre Legion Baseball or Havre Force Fastpitch.
