Havre Ice Hawks swept on the road

The Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team got back on the ice this past weekend with a pair of games on the road against the Bozeman Icedogs. However, the Hawks were swept as they lost, 4-2, Saturday and then lost, 6-0, Sunday.

The Hawks opened the weekend Saturday night with a 4-2 loss in Bottcher Arena in Bozeman. The Icedogs struck first as Reid Wilkinson scored a goal halfway through the first period. The Hawks then responded with a goal from Austin Boyce to tie the game.

Early in the second period, Ciaran Courtnage scored a goal on a power play to give Havre a 2-1 lead. But late in the second period, Max Gallicano scored a goal to tie the game once again.

The Icedogs then dominated the third period to win the game. Just past the halfway point of the third, Sawyer Rogers made a goal to give Bozeman the lead. A few minutes later, Miko Perkins scored a goal to give the Icedogs a formidable lead that they would not relinquish.

Gallicano led the Icedogs with two points as he recorded a goal and an assist. Goalie Joe Johnson recorded a save percentage of .909 for the Icedogs.

Boyce led the Hawks with two points as he recorded a goal and an assist. Courtnage picked up a point as he scored the only other goal for the Hawks. Goalie Clara Holland recorded a save percentage of .875 in the game.

Things did not get much better for the Hawks Sunday morning in their 6-0 loss. After a scoreless first period, the Icedogs took the lead with a goal from Cooper Johnson in the second. Perkins then finished the second period strong with a pair of goals to give Bozeman a 3-0 lead.

Less than a minute into the third period, Michael Reich scored a goal on a power play to extend the lead to 4-0. Minutes later, he scored another goal to make it 5-0. Just for good measure, Aidan Higgins made a goal to give Bozeman a 6-0 lead that the Hawks could not overcome.

Both Reich and Perkins recorded three points in the game as both players scored two goals and recorded an assist. Starting goalie Cole Moser did not give up any scores as the Hawks had 18 shots on goal. Havre’s starting goalie Rogan Sayers recorded a save percentage of .793.

With the loss, the Hawks dropped to 0-4 to start the season. The Hawks will next play this Saturday night at 8 p.m. and this Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with a pair of games against Flathead at the Havre Ice Dome.
