New MFU local forms on Hi-Line

from Montana Farmers Union

A newly formed Montana Farmers Union local for Liberty and Toole counties has elected officers and joined other Locals across the state in continuing MFU’s efforts to help family farms and rural communities thrive.

“I’m really excited about getting a local up and running again,” said John Wicks, the Local’s president.

“I’m excited for our producers to be able to voice concerns or issues that are important to them and be a part of the process that forms Ag legislation,” Wicks added.

The local is a place for producers to come together with a common interest of advocating for family farmers and ranchers, and rural communities, said Rachel Prevost, who serves as MFU’s member services and government affairs director.

“This group will continue to meet and can submit policy resolutions to the MFU state resolutions committee, advocate at the state legislature, and be active in supporting their local communities,” Prevost said.

After voting to form the local, the following officers were elected: John Wicks, president; Gary Blonde, vice president; and Charlotte Kelly, secretary/treasurer.

The Liberty/Toole MFU local formation is the result of MFU’s engagement efforts across the state, led largely by MFU’s regional Membership Ambassadors.

“The MFU Ambassadors have been actively working with members to provide opportunities to gather and discuss the issues important to them in their community and see where MFU can be supportive and engaged at the local level,” Prevost said. “If you are wanting to be more active with Farmers Union or meet other agricultural producers in your community, get in touch with your closest Ambassador”
