Veterans of Forign Wars Post 497 and the American Legion will be holding the yearly Veterans Day Ceremony at the VFW Memorial Wall Friday at 11 a.m., an opportunity for local veterans, their families, friends and supporters to come together for the holiday.
And a local school continues to honor veterans as well, with Sunnnyside Intermediate School holding a Veterans Day breakfast Friday from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
The breakfast is to honor the students’ parents who served in the armed forces, “and to thank those students for sharing their parents with us,” the release said.
The release said the second annual Veterans Day breakfast will include honor drums/song, a flag raising and a white table presentation to hoor the men and women who served in the armed forces.
At the wall at 11, Dale Herd of Post 497 said, the ceremony will start near the wall and flagpole near Town Square and will be followed by the honor guard’s three-volley salute.
After that, Herd said, they will go inside the Elk’s Lodge for an indoor ceremony, then a chili lunch and get-together.
He said it’s a great opportunity for people, especially veterans’ families, to visit each other, discuss veterans issues.
He said he suspects weather might keep some people away this year, but otherwise the event will look pretty much the same as it did in 2021.
Herd said anyone interested in supporting local veterans, regardless of whether they’re in VFW, is welcome to attend.
