Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup: Sugarbeeters punch their ticket to state

The Chinook Sugarbeeters have a very talented volleyball team this season, and it showed with how they played at the Northern C Divisional tournament last weekend.

Home court advantage didn't hurt, either.

Chinook reached the Northern C championship Saturday afternoon in Chinook, where the Beeters fell to Belt, 3-0, but still advanced to the Class C state tournament.

In the finale, Belt won by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-21, with Bree Swanson and Rilee Molyneaux tallying 10 kills each for the Beeters.

Chinook punched their ticket to state earlier Saturday when the Beeters swept rival Fort Benton by scores of 25-20, 27-25 and 25-21 in the third-place match. Swanson had 15 kills and 16 digs for Chinook, while Fort Benton was led by Hailee Wang in what was the end of another great season.

Chinook was in the third-place match via a tough, five-set loss to Belt in the undefeated semifinal Friday night. The Huskies, who wound up winning the Northern C, beat the Beeters 3-2 in a five-set thriller.

The tournament got underway Thursday morning with Chinook beating Cascade 3-0, Fort Benton topping Simms 3-1, Belt defeating Big Sandy 3-0 and Great Falls Central sweeping Highwood, 3-0. In the quarterfinals Thursday night, Chinook swept Fort Benton 3-0 and Belt beat GFCC, 3-1. Loser-out action Friday saw Simms beat Cascade 3-1, Highwood eliminate Big Sandy 3-1, Simms knock out GFCC 3-0 and Fort Benton take out Highwood 3-2. Fort Benton would then start things off Saturday with a 3-2 win over Simms in the fourth-place match
