Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup: Sugarbeeters capture District 7C championship

The volleyball postseason on the Hi-Line started with a bang last weekend, as the District 7C Tournament was held in Fort Benton.

And when the dust settled on the three-day volleyball extravaganza, the Chinook Sugarbeeters had reclaimed the 7C title. Chinook twice defeated Highwood for the championship over the weekend, meaning the Beeters, led by the strong play of Bree Swanson, Hallie Neibauer, Mya Berreth, Alexus Seymour and so many others, will be the top seed at this week's Northern C, which will be held on their home floor.

Chinook's march to the 7C title started Thursday when the Beeters swept North Star in the first round. Highwood also beat Box Elder 3-0, Fort Benton beat Big Sandy 3-0 and Chester-Joplin-Inverness fell to Centerville 3-0. In the quarterfinals Thursday night, Highwood beat Fort Benton 3-1 and Chinook swept Centerville 3-0.

In loser-out action Friday morning, Big Sandy eliminated Box Elder, while CJI knocked out North Star. Fort Benton then eliminated CJI in a sweep, while Big Sandy took out the Miners, 3-1 to keep its season alive. Meanwhile, the undefeated semifinal Friday night, Chinook beat Highwood in a five-set thriller to advance to Saturday championship match, where the Beeters would again beat the Mountaineers.

Highwood was able to come back to the championship match by beating Fort Benton in the third-place match Saturday afternoon. The Longhorns had stayed alive by beating Big Sandy 3-0 in the fourth-place match Saturday morning.

Now, Chinook, Highwood and Fort Benton will compete in the Northern C Divisional Thursday-Saturday in Chinook, with the top two teams advancing to next week's State Tournament in Bozeman.
