Northern Montana Health Care now utilizes RxInform

Northern Montana Health Care is currently rolling out a new program for their patients. “RxInform” is a texting service that provides patients with education information about prescriptions. Meant to be utilized with new prescriptions, it adds another layer of information that patients can benefit from. Once a provider has entered a new prescription in for a patient, the RxInform program will automatically create a text to the patient with information.

“Quite often, when a patient is prescribed a new medication, especially after a hospital stay, the medication is unknown to them. This creates a need for more information about the benefits, usage and side effects of a medication,” Northern Montana Pharmacy Director Cal Lien said. “RxInform will text the patient with pharmacy directions and phone number; and the details of their prescription, including the name, strength and quantity prescribed. There is also a button that a patient can press for more education on the medication. They can even set a reminder to pick up their prescription right from their smart phones.”

“Utilizing technology to better educate our patients ensures that we can maintain quality health care for our community. RxInform is another layer of information that we are pleased to be able to offer to our patients,” said Garrit Ophus, director of information Systems at NMH. “RxInform utilizes encryption to ensure that all personal health information is handled in accordance with HIPAA and other applicable federal and state privacy laws. Patients can opt out of receiving these texts at any time if they do not wish to participate.”

Patients will start seeing these texts as early as this week, starting Monday.
