Havre firefighters will be holding their annual Everyone Loves a Firefighters food drive Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., collecting non-perishable food left on porches and sidewalks throughout the community for the Havre Food Bank.
International Association of Firefighters Local 601 Vice President Cody McLain of the Havre Fire Department said in an email that people looking to donate food to the drive should leave it on their front porches.
District 4 Human Resources and Development Council Employment and Training Director Kiera Patera said the firefighters are looking to cover the whole town in one evening this year, so people should leave a light on so they know to stop, since they'll be moving pretty quickly.
Patera said people can also donate items directly at HRDC or the fire department.
She said, in years past, they held the drive knocking on people's doors and holding a costume contest, but since the pandemic they've scaled back to a contactless model.
People will see the firefighters throughout town with their emergency lights going, but there is no fire, so people shouldn't worry.
Patera said the food bank is still looking for some volunteers to sort food during the drive and anyone interested can show up at HRDC around 6 p.m that evening.
"The food bank is very appreciative of the support we get from the community," she said. "... Thank you."
She also said the food bank is running their annual funding drive and the Town Pump will match all cash donations up to $12,500 through the end of November. She said it's their primary funding mechanism for the year.
