Maroon-Gold Dual determines starting lineup for the Lights

The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team held their annual Maroon and Gold Match on Thursday night in the Armory Gymnasium. There were 10 total matches and both the Maroon and Gold teams won five of the matches.

The first match of the night, at 174 pounds, saw Rylin Burns defeat Cade Gubler by fall in the second period.

At 184 pounds, Austin Vanek downed Reece White by fall in the first period.

In the 125 pound match, Tanner Cook took the win 16-3 over Leo Anderson.

At 133 pounds, Noah McDermott prevailed over Cooper Cook in three overtimes by a score of 3-2.

In the 149 pound match, returning All-American Martin Wilkie downed Georgino Moraga by technical fall in the first period.

At 157 pounds, Connor Harris scored an 8-3 win over Gavin McLean.

In the 165 pound match, Devin Crawford defeated Zach Valdez 16-2.

In the 285 pound match, Rylan Moldenhauer scored a 13-4 victory over Shane Mattson.

At 174 pounds, returning All-American Nakoda Seigel defeated Rylin Burns 9-3.

In the final match of the night, Carl Hansen defeated Austin Vanek by fall in the first period.

“We learned we have a lot to improve on,” MSU-N head coach Tyson Thivierge said. “It’s tough to judge on this dual because the guys wrestle every day together. We have a lot to clean up before next week. This was our first time down to scratch weight and tonight was the reason we did it. The first time down is always tough.”

The Lights are next in action Friday, October 28 at 7:00 pm when they face off with North Idaho College.
