News you can use
We are down to days before the election Nov. 8. I have been campaigning by attending many functions, speaking at events, and listening to the issues at all my stops. I am fortunate and thankful to have the support and encouragement of so many of our family, friends, neighbors and strangers as we roll though these final weeks.
Saturday Oct. 8, my family took in the Northern football game. It was a special day as we have a grandson playing on the team and two of our daughters were there to cheer on the team, as well. Our ties to Northern run deep. Both Judy and I have attended and graduated from MSU-N, as well as our daughter Hapi, who received her teaching degree, and now our grandson.
The following day, Sunday, Republican candidates Josh Kassmier, Ed Hill, and I were at the Republican Headquarters to visit and enjoy a taco feed. Good day! On Monday night I was invited to participate in a forum put together by Tim Leeds with the Havre Daily News and hosted by Northern. I had the opportunity to meet my Senate opponent for the first time. He’s a nice enough guy, and certainly didn’t seem as bad as the mailer the Montana Republican State Central Committee sent out. I want to thank the Havre Daily and MSU-N for hosting that event.
This past Friday, I visited with Ms. Ratliff and Mr. Laird’s Current Events and History classes at Havre High School. It was a full classroom, giving me a chance to explain how bills work their way through the process from an idea to law. I also spoke about the process of serving as a page during Legislative session and page responsibilities. It is always good to talk with students, with their teacher’s support, to explain how government works and laws come to be.
At noon that day, the Hill County Pachyderms asked to me to give a talk about what may be coming in and what to expect during the next Legislative session. As always, I also listened to their concerns and input on topics such as, abortion, surplus dollars, school help shortage, and a few more issues. It’s always a great day when I can visit with like-minded folks. It was sad to hear Gail Rader had passed. She never misses these meeting and has always given me encouragement and support. As always, be safe.
