Red-hot Blue Ponies demolish the Rangers Friday in Livingston

The Havre High football team is really on a roll.

Last Friday night, the Blue Ponies racked up their fourth straight Eastern A Conference win, with a 42-0 blanking of the Livingston Rangers on the road in Livingston. The win pushed HHS to 6-2 on the season, with a playoff berth already clinched.

First-year head coach Jake Eldridge’s squad once again put together a dominant defensive performance, not only pitching a shutout over the winless Rangers, but also holding them to under 150 yards of offense and just handful of first downs on the night.

Offensively, the Blue Ponies got rolling once again behind senior quarterback Koale VanCampen, who’s having a minster season. VanCampen scored on the ground for the Ponies, while the likes of Tre Gary, Crawford Terry and Logan Kinsella all found paydirt for the Ponies, who rolled to more than 300 yards of total offense in the commanding win.

And that win put Havre in sight of a top three finish in the Eastern A. The Blue Ponies stand behind Lewistown, who has clinched a share of the Eastern A title, and Billings Central, which is in second with one loss. Havre is tied for third with Laurel, which the Ponies play in the regular season finale Thursday night. The Locomotives are also 6-2 after smashing Glendive 42-0 last Friday night. The winner of the Laurel/Havre showdown will clinch the East’s No. 3 seed in the upcoming playoffs, while the loser will be firmly entrenched in the No. 4 spot. A total of five teams from the Eastern A qualify for the playoffs, while seven teams from the Western A are in.

Havre hosts the Locomotives Thursday night at 6 p.m. inside Blue Pony Stadium. The 12-team Class A playoffs begin next Saturday.
