The 2022-23 season is almost here for the Montana State University-Northern Lights wrestling team. And fans will get their first look at the Lights Saturday when they host their annual Alumni Dual.
The Alumni Dual, which features matches between so many past Northern greats and the current Lights' roster, is part of MSU-N's annual buildup toward the regular season. Longtime Lights' head coach Tyson Thivierge will also hold the annual Maroon/Gold Dual next Thursday as the Lights continue to prep for their season-opening dual against North Idaho at the end of the month.
Among the alumni scheduled to compete Saturday are former national champions Ben Stroh, Brandon Weber and Isaac Bartel, while many other former Northern greats and All-Americans will take to the mat to face the Lights in 18 matches.
Northern, which returns a slew of talented wrestlers this season, is also picked to finish third in the CCC this season. The Men's Wrestling Poll was released Wednesday, with Eastern Oregon picked first, followed by Menlo College. The 11-team CCC is easily one of the toughest conferences in all of NAIA wrestling.
The Alumni Dual will start Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lights open their regular season against NJCAA powerhouse North Idaho Oct. 28 in Havre.
