Skylights sweep Bulldogs for second straight victory

Last week was a tough start to the Frontier Conference volleyball season. But, the Montana State University-Northern Skylights are rolling now.

After beating Providence Wednesday night in Havre, the Skylights took to the road, and swept the Montana Western Bulldogs Saturday in Dillon.

The Skylights won in three sets (25-20, 25-20, and 25-19).

During the first set, Western went on a 7-0 to take and extend the lead. Northern came back and made some big plays and runs at the end of the set to take the win. In the second set, the game went back and forth. It was anyone's game, but Northern went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead for the win. The Skylights were able to control the third set to take the match.

The Skylights were led by Jessalyn Chvilicek, who tallied 13 kills with a hitting percentage of .281. Alyssa Pretty Weasel added 11 kills. Emily Feller led the team in digs with 15 and in assists with 36.

The Bulldogs were led by Kaylee Kopp who had nine kills with a hitting percentage of .152. Kaylee Fritz led the team with 24 assists in the match. Jazi Smith led the team with 21 digs.

MSU-Northern had a hitting percentage of .169 on the day, while Montana Western hit .043. The Skylights had 36 assists, as the Bulldogs had 30. Northern also had 71 digs to Montana Western 68. The Skylights had eight blocks.

The Skylights improved to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the Frontier Conference. They will be at home to host Carroll College Friday and Montana Tech Saturday night.
