Blue Ponies run well at the Fergus Invitational

On Tuesday afternoon in Lewistown, the Havre High cross country teams competed in the Fergus Invitational. Even though it was in the middle of the week, the Blue Ponies ran well as the HHS girls team finished second in its race and the HHS boys took fifth in its meet. With high temperatures at the meet, HHS head coach Erin Lynch liked how her team ran.

"The biggest obstacle we had in today's meet was the afternoon heat. That said, our girls team fared well against the Fergus team," Lynch said. "Even though we were edged out on the win today our girls really pulled together. Sometimes there's more learned from a loss than a win."

The HHS girls team took second in the meet with a team score of 38. Lewistown won the girls race with a score of 27 while Livingston came in third. The HHS boys scored 124 points as a team to take fifth in the meet. Livingston won the boys meet with a score of 42 while Laurel took second and Joliet finished third.

Both races at the meet were won by an individual Pony. Hailey Gingery won the girls race with a time of 21:11.98. On the boys side, Caleb Tomac took first with a time of 16:53.12. Many other Ponies ran well to lead their teams to high finishes at the meet.

In the girls race, Jayla Meldrum took home a medal as she finished third with a time of 21:51.12. Clara Haslem helped break up the Lewistown pack as she took ninth with a time of 23:41.44. Paige Anderson finished 11th in the meet for the Ponies as she posted a time of 24:12.72.

Gracie Shandorf finished 14th with a time of 24:56.11. While she has been under the weather, Hannah Kinsella finished 18th in the race with a time of 25:50.04. In 22nd came Ariel Ost with a time of 26:07.41.

In the boys race, Zack May finished 11th for the Ponies with a time of 18:42.98 and Ezra Goldhahn took 22nd with a time of 19:44.36. Mason Gregoire took 40th for the Ponies while Dodson Corner took 50th, Dylan Kunz took 57th and Koby Preputin took 58th to round out the pack for the Ponies.

The HHS cross country teams will get little rest as they will next compete in the Custer County Invitational in Miles City this Saturday.
