Kyanna Jarvis and the Blue Ponies are set for another postseason run
This fall, the Havre High volleyball team will be looking to build off its impressive season from last year. In 2021, the Blue Ponies had a strong regular season and finished second at the state tournament. While expectations are high this fall, players such as Kyanna Jarvis know there is plenty of work to do throughout the season.
"We feel like we're pretty high up there so far but we still have a lot of work to do," Jarvis said. "We're just working hard and practicing every day."
With this being her junior year, Jarvis will get more playing time as she tries to help the Ponies make another run. Jarvis plays outside hitter, so she will be a key player for the offense this fall. As she gets more responsibility Jarvis believes it shows how far she has come as a volleyball player.
"I feel like I'm getting better than I was before," Jarvis said. "I like volleyball so it means a lot that I get to play more."
The Ponies are already off to a 3-0 start and a 2-0 start in Northeast A competition this fall. This past weekend, the Ponies defeated Laurel and Miles City on the road. The Ponies have spent the last three weekends on the road, but their spirit has kept them engaged in hostile environments.
"Cheering gets us through a lot. If we're up, then everybody's up," Jarvis said.
Jarvis has had a strong start to the year for the Ponies. So far this fall, she has been a key component of the offense with 28 total kills in three matches. Her serving has also been excellent with nine service aces this year.
Jarvis and the Ponies will finally make their home debut at Havre High Gymnasium this Saturday with a match against Glendive. With home court advantage this weekend, Jarvis hopes to see the Havre community to come out and see what the Ponies are capable of.
"I look forward to everybody coming and I like the competition seeing what we have to offer," Jarvis said. "I hope everybody comes to watch."
Before the Ponies hit the court against Glendive this Saturday afternoon, the Havre Daily News got the chance to ask Jarvis five questions.
HDN: What are your expectations for the rest of the season?
Jarvis: "My expectations would be for everybody to play the best they can and for everybody to try their hardest. I'm also looking forward to the trips with everybody. It's fun and I feel like we all blend well together."
HDN: What matches did you look forward to this season?
Jarvis: "I really want to play Hardin but so far I really liked playing Laurel. I was looking forward to the Laurel match but now that we're more into the season, it's Hardin."
HDN: What are the responsibilities of playing outside hitter?
Jarvis: "I play left side defense so (my responsibilities are) just being able to read the hitters and what they're going to do and then playing defense and staying on my toes."
HDN: What do you enjoy the most about volleyball?
Jarvis: "I like how everyone is like a family and cheering. We're just really energetic."
HDN: Between volleyball, basketball and track, which is your favorite to compete in?
Jarvis: "Track and volleyball. They just push me and it's a lot of mental toughness."
