Havre golf teams complete tough courses on road trip

After two long rounds and two tough golf courses, the Havre High golf teams have a glimpse of what the upcoming Eastern A Divisional will look like.

Last week, the Blue Ponies faced off against all of their division rivals at tournaments in Glendive and Sidney. And HHS head coach George Ferguson was happy with the effort his kids gave.

"This is our most challenging trip of the season," Ferguson said. "Right off the bus and out on the course Thursday morning in Glendive, and then on to Sidney that night, up and on one of the toughest courses in the state the next morning. So nothing about the trip was easy for our kids, and that's why I'm so proud of them. They all did their very best. We saw a little bit of everything as far as scores go, but that's OK. Right now, it's all about progressing, about working towards our goals and our kids did a great job of that last weekend."

At the Glendive Invitational Thursday, the Havre boys took Seventh, with Matt Huse shooting 83 to lead the way, as he recorded a Top 10 finish. Ethan Stortz added a 93 for the Ponies, while Shane Patacsil, Reid Kato and Austin Delarosa rounded out the scoring for HHS.

The Pony girls finished fifth in Glendive. Shea Reber shot a 100 for 7th place, while Calista Pyrak and Callie Bebee were 11th and 12th, respectively.

The Ponies then moved on to the Sidney Invite Friday. Sidney has one of the tougher courses Havre sees each regular season, and the HHS boys made big strides, moving up to fifth place, with Huse shooting 84 for 10th place, and Patacsil added an 87 for a Top 15 finish. The HHS girls also were fifth in Sidney, with Shea Reber finishing in 11th place with a 109, while Tierra Parker shot a 111 for 15th place overall.

"Both courses played really tough this week," Ferguson said. "So no matter our scores, it was good for our kids. They were challenged, but with all the Eastern A on the same courses, we also know much better now where we need to get to before divisionals. Our kids are working hard, and they are really grinding on this trip and I'm proud of them for that."

Havre will now move on to the final weekend of the regular season. The Ponies play at the Billings Central Invitational Thursday morning and the Laurel Invitational Friday morning.
