People are invited to a presentation Thursday at North Central Senior Citizens Center to learn about pollinators, why they are important and what people can do to help them.
Emma Korntheuer of the Hill County Conservation District said her presentation will be fairly short and sweet but cover important topics.
She said she hopes in the latter part of the presentation to get some discussion going and answer any questions anyone has.
“It’s important because pollinators are having a little bit of a hard time right now, especially cultivated pollinators, honey bees,” she said.
Korntheuer said her presentation will give an overview of pollinators native to Montana and to cultivated pollinators, and their importance and roles in people’s lives and industries.
She said some are important for agriculture, especially alflalfa.
The presentation will go over specific pollinators in the area, especially native bee families in the area, and how people can provide nesting resources and providing food for them.
That includes knowing what kinds of plants to plant and how long their bloom times are, Korntheuer said.
She added that the communities in north-central Montana can be a great aid to pollinators thriving.
“Little urban areas like Havre are wonderful for supporting native pollinators,” she said.
The presentation is scheduled for Thursday at North Central Senior Citizens Center, 2 Second St. W., from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
