As the second week of high school football took place over the Hi-Line this past weekend, local football fans were able to get a better idea of what teams are capable of this fall. On Friday night, the Big Sandy six-man football team showed what it was capable of with a 50-0 win over Roy-Winifred on the road.
The Pioneers got it started in the first quarter with Braydon Cline throwing a five-yard touchdown pass to Kody Strutz. After getting a stop on defense, Lane Demontiney returned the punt 63 yards for another score to extend the lead to 16-0.
The Pioneers kept rolling in the second quarter. Cline connected with Strutz for another touchdown, this one from ten yards out. Wylee Snapp then got in on the action with a 17-yard touchdown catch from Cline. Rusty Gasvoda got it going on the ground with a three-yard run for the score and a 36-0 lead at the half.
Even with the huge lead, the Pioneers continued to score thanks to Cooper Taylor. In the third quarter, Taylor caught Cline’s fourth touchdown pass of the day for an eight-yard score. Then on defense in the fourth quarter, Taylor returned an interception all the way for another touchdown for the Pioneers.
The Big Sandy offense finished with 215 yards of offense with an average of 6.1 yards a play. Cline finished the day with 125 passing yards on 10-for-19 passing. The Pioneers also recorded 90 rushing yards as a team on 5.6 yards a carry. The offense also played mistake-free football with zero penalties and no turnovers.
The Big Sandy defense had a strong day with no points, 75 yards and 18 rushing yards allowed. The Pioneers forced a pair of turnovers and made Roy-Winifred go 0-for-8 on third down.
With the win, the Pioneers moved to 2-0. The Big Sandy six-man football team will next play this Saturday on the road at Sunburst.

North Star 52, Great Falls Central 16
After a tough loss to Centerville to open the season, the North Star six-man football team rebounded on Saturday afternoon at home with a 52-16 win over Great Falls Central. The Knights jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter thanks to their offense.
The Knights took the lead with a 10-yard touchdown run by Xander Searles. The Knights then got it going in the air with Gavin Spicher throwing a 15-yard touchdown to Ty Hansen. The ground game continued to pave the way for the Knights as Travis Otto ran for a 42-yard score.
Spicher threw another pair of touchdowns in the first quarter with a 4-yarder to Hansen and then a 73-yarder to Sebastien Mansfield. The Mustangs scored late in the quarter, but North Star had a 38-8 lead to end the frame.
In the second quarter, the Knights continued to make plays. Michael Berg ran for a six-yard score to increase the lead. Then on defense, Chris Burkhartsmeyer picked up a fumble and returned it 25 yards for the score. In the third quarter, Berg ran for another score from two yards out. The Mustangs scored in the fourth quarter, but the Knights had the game in hand by that point.
The Knights improved their record to 1-1 on the season. The North Star six-man football team will look to make it two in a row with a home game this Saturday afternoon against Valier.

CJI 45, Bainville 20
After a dominant win to open the season last week, the Chester-Joplin-Inverness six-man football team had another strong showing with a 45-20 win over Bainville at home this past Saturday.
The Hawks got it started as they jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter. But the Bulldogs responded in the second quarter with a score to cut the deficit to 16-8 heading into halftime.
The Bulldogs scored again in the third quarter, but the Hawks scored another pair of touchdowns in the frame to make it, 30-14, heading to the fourth quarter. Bainville scored again in the fourth, but the Hawks continued to put the ball in the end zone to put the game away.
The CJI six-man football team has now improved to 2-0 on the season and will next play on the road this Saturday afternoon against Centerville.

Fort Benton 66, Rocky Boy 0
In a matchup between Hi-Line eight-man football teams, the Fort Benton Longhorns got the better of Rocky Boy with a 66-0 victory in Fort Benton on Friday night. The Longhorns got things rolling early as they took a 28-0 lead in the first quarter. They then scored another pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to make it, 44-0 at the half.
Even with the huge lead, the Longhorns continued to score in the second half to put the game out of reach. Meanwhile, the Rocky Boy offense could not break through to score against the Fort Benton defense, even late in the game.
With this being their season opener, the Rocky Boy Stars start the season 0-1. The Fort Benton Longhorns continue their strong start to the year as they improve to 2-0. Both teams will next play on the road this Friday night as Rocky Boy will head to Harlem searching for a win while Fort Benton will look to stay undefeated as they play Belt.

Chinook 46, Park City 6
After a tight win to open the season, the Chinook 8-man football team had an easier time in its 46-6 victory over Park City on the road this past Friday. With the win, the Sugarbeeters improved to 2-0 on the young season as they try to make it to the postseason once again. Chinook will next play at home this Friday night against Shelby.
Shelby 44, Harlem 22
After a win over Poplar to open the year, the Harlem 8-man football team looked to stay undefeated as it went on the road to face Shelby this past Friday. However, the Coyotes got the better of the Wildcats as Shelby won 44-22. With their 1-1 record, the Wildcats will next play Rocky Boy at home this Friday night.
Sunburst 52, Box Elder 38
Under new head coach Tim Rosette Jr., the Box Elder six-man football team opened its season this past Saturday with a home game against Sunburst. While the Bears tried to keep up with their opponent, Sunburst left the field with the 52-38 victory. With a 0-1 record to start the year, the Bears will look to win on the road against Heart Butte this Saturday.
