Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Crawford Terry, Havre High football

Crawford Terry hopes to help the Blue Ponies turn things around this fall

This past weekend, the Havre High football team opened the season with a 13-7 win over Sidney on the road. The Blue Ponies are under the leadership of new head coach Jake Eldridge, so they will be looking to turn things around as a program, especially senior Crawford Terry.

"I just want our team to work as hard as they can and just prove to everyone that we can win," Terry said.

Terry returns for his senior season for the Ponies as he will play running back and middle linebacker. On defense, he enjoys serving as the leader of the unit from his position. Running back is also fun for him considering all the carries he gets.

Football has been a staple in Terry's life since the fourth grade as his father helped him get into it. Even though he also plays basketball, football eventually became his favorite sport.

His enjoyment for the sport has shown through his commitment through all these years. During his high school career, the Ponies have had their ups and downs as a program. But despite this adversity, Terry has kept with it.

"We haven't had great seasons and I'm hoping we can make that turn around this year," Terry said. "The (positive) is the team. Being with the team. It's awesome."

Football has given much to Terry over the years. He loves the family that he has found with his teammates. Even when he is not on the field, he spends most of his time with his teammates.

Terry and the HHS football team hold their season opener this Friday at 7 p.m. at Blue Pony Stadium. The Ponies will play their rival Lewistown, who defeated the Ponies, 33-0, last season. Before Terry gets on the field this weekend to help his team try to get revenge, the Havre Daily News got to ask him five questions.

HDN: What is it like adjusting to a new head coach?

Terry: "I like it. He's taught us a lot of new things. I think we can go a long way with him."

HDN: What are the emotions with this being your final year in the program?

Terry: "It's hard. It went by really fast. I think all of our seniors can say that."

HDN: What is the hardest part about football?

Terry: "Probably the adversity. It's hard to go through a lot of work and it doesn't pay off."

HDN: What do you plan on doing after high school?

Terry: "I plan on going to Montana Tech for civil engineering. That's my plan for now, but it might change."

HDN: Do you have a favorite football team or player?

Terry: "For my favorite team, the Denver Broncos. For my favorite player, Ray Lewis on defense and on offense, probably Jim Brown who is one of my favorite running backs."
