Extreme heat returns to area, but maybe not for long

Unfortunately, it seems the region’s brief respite from the extreme heat is at an end, with highs in the 90s on the way throughout this week and most of next, with another break hopefully coming after that.

Until last week, Montana, as well as much of the U.S. and the world, was experiencing a scorching summer, with highs rarely going under 90 degrees and often going well into the triple digits for weeks on end.

According to data from the National Weather Service, 25 out of 29 days this month have been above-average in terms of average temperature compared to 21 out of 31 days in July.

Even though last week was relatively cool compared to the previous months, only one day, Sunday, actually recorded a temperature below average, and even then by less than 1 degree.

However, last week granted the area something of a reprieve from the brutal heat, with highs descending into the 80s and lows into the 50s, bringing somewhat more comfortable days and nights with some showers throughout the week and this morning.

But this week seems to have brought an end to that streak, with the National Weather Station at the Havre City-County Airport predicting highs in the 90s every day but Friday this week.

Lows, however, will mostly stay in the 50s, so nights should be a bit more comfortable.

Today the area will be looking at a high of 91 and a low of 58, Wednesday a high of 96 and a low of 62, Thursday a high of 93 and a low of 54 and Friday a 88 and a low of 58.

As for the coming forecast, weather.com is predicting highs in the 90s through Wednesday next week, but after that, temperatures will drop off again with clouds rolling into the area and highs descending into mid 70s starting Friday of next week.
