Obituary - Kelly Bennett Benson

Kelly Benson passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022.

Kelly Bennett Benson was born July 14, 1959, to Roger and Leila Benson in Glasgow, MT. He was the oldest son of three children. After Roger took on an executive role at Havre Federal Savings and Loan when Kelly was in the third grade, the family moved to Havre, where he continued school, graduating from Havre High School in 1977.

He joined the U.S. Army in February 1978 where he was trained as a medic and later became an LPN.

  September 4, 1981, he married Bonnie Holden and the couple enjoyed nearly 41 years of marriage full of adventure which included two children, Sarah Benson (Dahl) and Joel Benson.

Bonnie and Kelly traveled the United States and Europe together as Kelly was stationed in Fort Hood, TX, Baumholder, Germany, Fort Polk, LA, and Fort Sam Houston, TX, making many wonderful friends along the way. When his tour of Texas ended, he settled back in Havre working for Northern Montana Hospital and the National Guard. 

As a nurse of 34 years, Kelly was kind and empathic towards his patients. He specialized in elderly care and made many friends among his colleagues. Good natured and patient, Kelly treated all he met with respect and care.

He was a member in good standing at the Havre Assembly of God and, within the last year, became a member of the board of deacons. As an avid golfer, Kelly participated in the men's golf league with the Prairie Farms Golf Course and recently lost out of the playoffs. He regularly entered golf tournaments with his brother Ken winning a few here and there. And, many a year, he would play mini golf in Glacier with his son and daughter and occasionally let them win. He loved music in every way collecting albums, building playlists and youtube channels, and hoarding far too many speakers.

He was a devoted husband and loving and caring father and Papi. Kelly will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, winning grin, and kind heart.

He is preceded in death by his father, Roger Benson; his grandparents, George and Georgina Blanchard, Clarence and Mid Benson; aunt Kay Brooks, father-in-law, Ransom Holden, and brother-in-law John Holden.

  He is survived by his wife Bonnie Benson (Holden);, daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Marc Dahl; son and daughter-in-law Joel and Marquel Benson; mother, Leila Benson; brother and sister, Ken Benson and Bev Meagher; five grandchildren, Elias and Ruby Dahl and Eziekel, Lucy and Owen Benson; multiple in-laws, and several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services have been entrusted to Holland and Bonine and will be held at the Prairie Farms Golf Course at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23. Inurnment of his ashes will be held at the Highland Cemetery after the service and a fellowship will be held at the Assembly of God Church following the graveside inurnment. The family welcomes all to attend any portion of Kelly's memorial services.
