The Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians have announced its 11th annual powwow, set for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27-28, at Centene Stadium, 1025 25th St. North, Great Falls.
Registration is required.
Vending spaces are available, with registration required for that as well.
The powwow includes 50/50 tickets available for purchase.
Saturday’s events start with the 5 kilometer “Ojibwe Jog” at 8 a.m. and a pipe ceremony at 9 a.m.
Saturday has two grand entries, the first at noon and the second at 7 p.m.
Sunday’s grand entry is at noon.
The master of ceremonies is Larus Longie and the arena director is Richard Parenteau.
Head man dancer is Steven Middle Rider and head woman dancer is Rebekah Jarvey.
Head drum is Chippewa-Cree Singers. Head drum and the first three drum groups to register will be paid.
Multiple prizes are available, with the Golden Age category paying $300 to first place in both the men’s and women’s categories.
In the Men’s Dance category, $300 will be paid for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third in Traditional, Fast Fancy, Grass and Chicken.
In the Women’s Dance category, $300 will be paid for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third in Traditional, Fancy Shawl and Jingle.
In Boys’ Teen, $150 will be paid for first, $100 for second and $75 for third in Traditional, Fast Fancy, Grass and Chicken.
In Girls’ Teen, $150 will be paid for first, $100 for second and $75 for third in Traditional, Fancy Shawl and Jingle.
