Montana’s streak of scorching weather continues, with the area having had highs from the mid 90s to over 100 degrees for weeks in a row, and while the coming weekend looks to be much of the same, next week may offer the weather-weary a reprieve.
In this part of north-central Montana, the National Weather Service recording station at the Havre City-County Airport recorded 100 degrees last Friday, just short of the record of 101 set in 2001, and since then the station has recorded highs well into the 90s until yesterday which recorded a high of 89.
The high temperatures still did not set any records, with Sunday’s record 101 degrees in 2001, Monday’s 103 in 1971, Tuesday’s 104 in 2003 and Wednesday’s 101 in both 1971 and 2001.
Thursday’s high was 16 degrees cooler than the record, 105 in 2001.
The high temperature for Havre today is predicted to be 91 degrees, a touch more manageable than recent weather and well-under the record of 98 set in 2008.
While the National Weather Service has not put out any warnings about the current weather, excessively high temperatures can still cause heat-related illnesses, so people should stay hydrated and as cool as possible.
As for the coming forecast weather.com is predicting a high of 96 Saturday, 93 Sunday and 91 Monday, but after that temperatures will drop with highs of 85, 82 and 82 for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, along with lows in the mid 50s.
Tuesday is predicted to have thunderstorms early in the day, a cloudy day Wednesday, and Thursday may see some morning showers.
After that temperatures will rise back into the high 80s and stay there through the coming week, which looks to be a sunny one, with lows staying in the mid 50s.
