Local League playoffs nearing

Tournament season is winding down across the Hi-Line, and there were two big ones last weekend.

At Prairie Farms Golf Course last Saturday and Sunday, the annual Duel on the Prairie Member/Guest, hosted by Waddell & Reed took place. The tournament featured a two-person alternate shot format Saturday, followed by two-man best ball Sunday. The overall low gross winner was the team of Kyle Miller and Matt Hedstrom, while the overall low net winner was the duo of Bill and Abby Nicholas.

At Beaver Creek Golf Course last Saturday, the Frank Henry Memorial Tournament was held. The four-person, 18-hole scramble, named in honor of the late Frank Henry, was another big event at BCGC. It is a fitting tribute to Frank, who absolutely loved to play competitive golf. I grew up learning the ropes of league and tournament golf from Frank, and many others, and whenever any of us who played a lot of golf with him, are on the course, we can’t help but think of Frank. He was truly one of the great members of our golfing community. So thanks to all of you who put the Frank Henry Memorial Tournament on,.

Speaking of winding down, ladies league at Prairie Farms Golf Course concluded their regular season last week. Patrick Construction was high team with 25 points. The squad was composed of Katie Heath, Kathy Peterson, Sue Armstrong and Stacy Mantle. Sarah Spangler and Kelsey Ward shared low gross with rounds of 43, while Jessica Faggerbakke was low net with a 26.5.

Patrick Construction was the first-place team from the regular season with 195 points. Now, the playoffs will begin for the ladies this week.

Both men’s leagues at Prairie Farms and BCGC will wrap up their regular seasons this week.

Last week at Prairie Farms men’s league, Mother Putters was high team Tuesday night, while Jordy Donoven and John Olszewski shared low gross, each shooting 37. Casey Kinyon was low net with a 31. Last Wednesday night saw Independence Bank earn high team with 24.5 points. Jeremy Jensen shot an incredible 4-under 32 for low gross, while Jacob LaBrie was low net with a 30.

Lastly, this week marks the start of Class A high school golf for the Havre Blue Ponies. Players are reminded they can’t participate until they have a sports physical. The Blue Ponies will open the season at next Monday’s Miles City Invitational, and will host their own Havre Invitational Thursday, Aug. 18, at both Prairie Farms and BCGC. The Blue Ponies’ season culminates with the Eastern A Divisional Sept. 23 at Lake Hills in Billings and the Class A State Tournament Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Hamilton Country Club.
