2022 Frontier Conference Football Preview: WR/TE

Top playmakers ready to stretch the field this season

There's always really good wide receivers and tight ends in the Frontier Conference. In fact, one of the very best to ever suit up in the NAIA at that position have come from the Frontier over the years.

And in 2022, there will again be some very good pass catchers.

One of the very best WR's this season resides in Butte. Montana Tech's Trevor Hoffman is already a two-time All-Conference performer, who caught 36 passes and six touchdowns a season ago. Hoffman, Montana State transfer Mark Estes and Kyle Torgerson make up an elite WR group for head coach Kyle Samson.

Returning senior Cameron Rothie should shine for Carroll College this season as well, while Montana Western quarterback Jon Jund returns one of his favorite receivers in Trey Mounts. An All-Conference WR and KR, Mounts has been stellar the last couple of years in Western's potent attack. In 2021, he caught 43 balls for 436 yards and eight touchdowns opposite All-American Nate Simkins.

At Rocky Mountain College, Donovan Hellgren is one to watch. In RMC's fast-paced attack. Hellgren was a leader a year ago, catching three touchdowns, but his production should go way up this season after star Lucas Overton graduated.

Other WR's to watch this season include Southern Oregon's Bryce Goggin, who led the Frontier in receiving yards per game a year ago, while catching 51 passes for 889 yards. College of Idaho's Jake Nadley is also one to keep an eye on after the Yotes graduated star Hunter Juarez.

There's also going to be some really good tight ends in the Frontier this fall, including right here in Havre. At Montana State University-Northern, the Lights return an outstanding tight end in Levi Keltner. A starter a year ago, Keltner should be one of Northern's top threats in the receiving game this fall.

Carroll College returns an All-Conference tight end in senior Tony Collins, as does RMC in senior Andrew Simon. Montana Tech's Logan Kennedy and SOU's Jackson Clemmer are very good as well, as Eastern Oregon's Willie Camp.

Editor's Note: This is the fifth in the Havre Daily News series on the top returning players by position in the Frontier Conference. In Tuesday's HDN, we'll take a look at the top defensive backs in the league.
