Sweet charity
You know, Lord, sometimes charity does not involve money/cash. More or less, it helps if a person is in a giving mood to give many different things, maybe like clothes, blankets, even art, a stove, maybe even an automobile (we've even seen that happen - how special, right?); or how about some stocks or bonds? Recently someone even gave some real estate ('twas out of state, but we learned about it!) and then there is giving of our time.
Probably the most important part of giving is being in the right mood and giving of one's time. When we were kids growing up on the ranch, we learned how to "give" as our mom was a giver of food, clothing, blankets, love, some linens and once she gave a needy little kid a lovely jacket that we had outgrown; the receiver was thrilled.
M-I-L was also a giver as some relatives received dishes, a sofa, and some cookware that she no longer needed or wanted. These gifts weren't all given to kin, but to some needy folks, or someone she had met as she visited about in the neighborhood, or learned about some needs in/among her church family.
It's fun to make/bake cookies, bread, jam and maybe even give some delicious desserts, just to share with some neighbors, family and friends.
One friend, in a different town, gives books, socks and lovely afghans that she knits, plus she also gives love, time and gift cards for any of their special occasions. Now isn't that a great thought, hum? Giving of one's time is important and precious, also, and much appreciated. Your word, Lord, tells us in Hebrews 13:16. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. "Give, and it will be given to you."
Love, Mara
