United Way looking for agencies to fund

Organization also looking for new executive director

United Way of Hill County is inviting eligible nonprofits to apply to be a funded partner with the agency.

The agency is also looking for a new executive director to run the local operations.

Delonna Malone, who retired as executive director this year, said United Way wants to get more nonprofits that work in the areas of education, health and income to apply.

She said United Way picked up some new funded partners last year including the Havre swim team, Havre Public Schools Education Foundation and National Alliance on Mental Illness Havre, but wants more.

"It was nice to get some new applications," Malone said. "We's just like to open that up to more nonprofits."

She said United Way had 10 funded partners this year, which also included the Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen, Havre Community Food Bank, along with the Hi-Set high school equivalency program and the Victims Services program through District 4 Human Resources Development Council.

Malone said she hopes more agencies, which must be 501(c)3 nonprofits working in one or more of the three focus areas, apply.

She said the application process is not very difficult, just a form to fill out and submit by the July 20 deadline.

Once all the applications are received, interviews are set with the applicants, then the United Way of Hill County Board decides how much of a grant to award each applicant.

"We'd like to see it get more widespread in the community," Malone said. "We know there are organizations out there that could use our funding."

Malone said fundraising has been a bit slower than usual this year, at least part of which she attributed to the pandemic.

She said United Way held a raffle for Mother's Day and is holding another for Independence Day July 4, and hopes to once again do its biggest fundraiser, the fall crab boil.

And, she said, United Way of Hill County still is advertising for a new executive director, a position she said she hopes is filled soon.
