A long-standing tradition is back Sunday, Father's Day, with the Havre Rotary Club holding its annual fishing derby.
Club president Dawn Ward said she is not sure when the derby started, but at least before COVID-19 it was the longest-running Rotary event in the country.
She said she expects a big turnout this year.
"Last year, we had a pretty good turnout and I think that this year we will have even better, I really do," she said. "I think people are just wanting to get out and socialize more and enjoy the fresh air and enjoy being together."
The event starts at Rotary Pond in Beaver Creek Park with registration from noon to 1, then fishing from 1 to 3 p.m.
The contest is divided into boys and girls divisions and 10-and-younger and 11-15 year age groups.
A caller will be announcing the names of successful fishers and size of fish caught as they are measured.
Ward said free sack lunches - it is free for children to fish that day, as well - will be provided to the children and Rotary will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages as well.
Dollar coins will be given as different special prizes throughout the day and medals will be given to the winners of each division.
Ward said Rotarian Gunnar Aageson is making hats with some special logos for the boy and the girl who catch the largest fish at the derby.
She said Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks recently stocked Rotary Pond in preparation for the derby.
Ward said parents and others can help the children with their fishing.
"They just need to bring their lawn chairs and umbrellas, whatever it takes to be comfortable," she said.
