Local Golf Report: It's been raining, and we do need it

The much-needed rain was a welcome sight this weekend around Havre. But, it also helped off long enough to let the first big tournament weekend of the summer get underway.

Beaver Creek Golf Course held the Chester Swim Team Scramble, while Prairie Farms Golf Course held the Fighting For a Cure tournament, which featured a full field of teams consisting of two women and two men. The tourney, put on by the Havre Women's Golf Association, was won by the team of Jim and Carrie Kato and Chad and Sarah Spangler. More importantly than the scores however, was the cause. Cancer is something that touches all of our lives, and everything anyone can do to fight it is greatly appreciated. So thank you so much to the Havre Women's Golf Association, and everything everybody did to help put on the tournament.

Next up on the tourney schedule is the Northern Tournament this weekend at Prairie Farms.

League golf also rolls on.

In men's league at Prairie Farms last Tuesday, Prairie Farms scored 21.5 points with Greg Baltrusch, Dan Wagner, Steve Broussard and Chuck Wimmer on the winning team. Jeremy Jensen shot a 37 for low gross and Trey Brown and Greg Baltrusch each had 33 for low net.

Last Wednesday saw Independence Bank rack up 25.5 points for high team. Byron Ophus, Deven Donoven, Gene Harada and Dennis Murphy composed the team. Ophus and Harada each had 33 for low net, while Kyle Miller was low gross with an even-par 36.

At ladies league last Thursday night, Prairie Farms was high team with 23 points. The team was made up of Chandra Moomey, Kelsey Sage, Abby Nicholas and Kirsti Peterson. Carrie Kato was low gross with a 42, while Maxine Munson netted a 29.

Men's league at BCGC continued last Thursday as well. DFL and Nalivkas are tied for first place.
