Local Golf Report: Tournament season is underway

The official start of summer is still a few weeks off, but the golfing summer officially begins this weekend, as the tournament schedule gets underway.

As always, the Prairie Farms tournament schedule starts with the annual Golfing For a Cure Tournament. The event has really blossomed over the years, and while it might not be the biggest golf tournament on the Hi-Line, to so many whose lives have been touched by cancer, it’s the most meaningful. Year-after-year, Golfing for a Cure, put on by the Havre Women’s Golf Association, does a great job to raise money and awareness for cancer in Havre and along the Hi-Line. I’ve been fortunate to have been a part of the tournament many times, and I can tell you it’s such a special event. So good luck to everyone playing Saturday. Have a great time, and thank you for all you do.

Saturday also marks the official start of a big tourney season at Beaver Creek Golf Course, with the 3rd Annual Chester Swim Team Scramble. The tournament will start at 9 a.m. and it has plenty of fun and prizes.

With tournaments underway now, please send us your tourney results and pictures of the winning teams, as we would love to publish that in our next From Tee to Green.

Meanwhile, league golf continued last week at both Prairie Farms and BCGC. Last Tuesday night in men’s league, Hole 19 took high team. Jim Kirkpatrick, Mike Purkett, Mark Larson and Ryan Callahan were the winning players, while Kirkpatrick shot 37 to earn low gross and Dave Sheppard, Byron Ophus and Kevin Tweeten each scored 33 for low net.

Last Wednesday night saw Independence Bank earn high-team honors with 33.5 points. Ophus, Deven Donoven, Gene Harada and Matt Wertheimer made up the team. Jeremy Jensen shot a one-under 35 for low gross, while J.T. Schubert was low net with a 33.5.

In women’s league at Prairie last Thursday, high team went to Northern Montana Hospital with 23.5 points. Carol Culp, Patti Nault, Kelsie Briese and Mary Pizzini made up the team. Ali Ward shot a 41 for low gross and Terry Lilletvedt was low net with a 32.

Last Monday and Thursday, BCGC men’s league completed a couple nights of league, with last Monday making up for a canceled night the week before.
