Montana State University Extension is holding a workshop in Havre June 9 to help ag producers and others prepare for and plan for livestock disasters.
A flyer for the event says it is aimed at Disaster and Emergency Service coordinators; veterinarians; law enforcement; county commissioners; fair boards and managers; community volunteers; 4-H youth; livestock producers, owners and haulers, and anyone interested in learning about making emergency and disaster livestock care, sheltering and evacuation plans.
Veterinarian Jeanne Rankin, MSU associate extension specialist, will present information on how to create livestock care, sheltering, and evacuation plans in preparation for disasters such as fire, flood, animal and zoonotic disease, and other threats.
The program will be widely audience-driven and interactive once the basics are given; discussions can cover the different needs for commercial livestock at different scales, hobby flocks and herds and working and recreational horses
The workshop will be at the 4-H Chuckwagon at the Great Northern Fairgrounds, 1676 U.S. Highway 2, Thursday, June 9, from 6-8 p.m. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
