Havre celebrates 31st year as Tree City USA

Tree planted in honor of Pam Wilson

Press release

As a part of the Arbor Day 2022 celebration, the Havre government and its TURF Committiee planted a burr oak tree in commemoration of Pam Wilson, lifelong resident of the community, for her lifelong service to Havre.

Wilson was a physical education instructor and taught at all three elementary schools when they were grade K-5 neighborhood schools before becoming grade-level schools in 2001. She also coached the Havre High School swim team for a year and in later years was employed by Montana State University-Northern as a physical education adjunct for several years.

When she wasn't teaching, Wilson was supervisor of the city of Havre's Pepin Park children's summer program for several years, as well as serving as a swim instructor and lifeguard at the Havre Community Pool. She also taught CPR and first aid for the community. That is only a part of a long list of responsibilities and volunteer positions.

The event was attended by Havre Mayor Doug Kaercher, Parks and Recreation Director Chris Inman, Parks Supervisor Joel Miller, Montana State Forester for the Northeast Division Josh Stoychoff and TURF members David Wilson, Pam Wilson and Sara Sieglock.

Sieglock was given an honorable mention by David Wilson for her years of service on the TURF Committee and other work for the City of Havre over the years.

This is the city of Havre's 31st year of Tree City USA, and the parks department and TURF Committee was praised by Stoychoff for the excellent work of maintaining existing trees and planting new trees for the city's public grounds over the many years in spite of depredations on the trees by urban wildlife, vandalism and natural disasters and diseases.
