Postponed Cal Wearley Invite will be held Tuesday
This time, the conditions should be perfect.
The first try at the annual Cal Wearley Invitational didn't work out earlier this month, but today, things look good for the area's best Class C track meet.
The Cal Wearley, hosted by North Star High School, began this morning at the Havre Middle School track, and features as many as 20-plus teams. The teams include the Havre Blue Ponies, as well as all of the District 9C, Rocky Boy, Harlem and many other Class B and C schools from around north-central Montana.
And the meet couldn't come too soon, as track and field has really been hampered by weather so far this season.
Last weekend saw a slew of cancellations or changes to the schedule, including the Blue Ponies having to miss the Laurel Invitational, which was set for last Saturday. Area schools also missed time on the track last weekend, including the Choteau Invitational, which was set to host a number of area teams.
Today, however, looks ideal for track with a warm, sunny day planned for the HMS Track, and that should bode well for what is always a quality meet. The Cal Wearley is a very popular meet, and a very competitive one as well, especially with how good the 9C season, and with the Blue Ponies in attendance.
The Blue Ponies are coming off a sweep at last Thursday's Whitewater Invitational in Malta. Havre also performed will at its own Lions Havre Invite two weeks ago at the Havre Middle School Track.
The Cal Wearley started at 9 a.m. at the Havre Middle School Track. Havre is also scheduled to compete at the ARM Invitational in Whitefish Saturday, while other area schools are hoping to compete at the Belt/Fairfield Meet Saturday in Great Falls.
