WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Jon Tester congratulated Havre’s Orion Thivierge Wednesday on his appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
Thivierge is the captain of the football and wrestling team, student body secretary, and a National Honor Society member at Havre High School. He has also received the Presidential Education Award and is in the top 10 students of his graduating class.
“As Montana’s senior senator, it’s an honor to help our state’s next generation of leaders attend our prestigious military service academies and continue the strong legacy of Montanans serving in our nation’s armed services,” Tester said. “Orion is a top-notch leader in and out of the classroom, who’ll continue to make Montana and the Hi-Line proud at the Naval Academy and beyond.”
Tester nominated Thivierge — along with 19 other Montanans — in December based on their academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and commitment to serving and leading in the United States military.
A nomination from a member of Congress is a student’s first step in applying to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Montana students who are interested in applying to a military academy in the future can request online a nomination from Tester by visiting https://www.tester.senate.gov/?p=academy_nominations .
