Great Northern Fair Board discusses events, projects

Members of the Great Northern Fair Board and Fairgrounds Manager Frank English discussed at their monthly meeting Tuesday night upcoming events and projects on the fairgrounds.

English said Circus Funtastic will be coming to the fairgrounds May 17 with a show at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.

He also said there will be some live music coming to the fairground in the near future and will have details on the event soon.

Board members also said the fairgrounds will have a car show coming up, as well as the Everything Antique Show.

Board member Ken Erickson said they will be getting a new website set up soon so people can keep track of events better.

He said the grounds has been doing very well in term of events, with the last rodeo held there having gone well and the 2022 Great Northern Fair really taking shape, with events scheduled for every night.

T.J. Daulton of the Havre Jaycees said his organization is setting up their Demolition Derby and Bump N' Run, but they will be having a meeting about it later and will discuss some of the finer details with the fair board later.

A flyer for the event on the Havre Jaycees Facebook page says the derby will begin at 4 p.m. July 17, with vehicle checkin starting at 10 a.m.

The board also discussed short- and long-term projects going on at the fairgrounds including some roof repairs English recently made to the Bigger Better Barn and the shop.

English said he also has the sound system in the Bigger Better Barn set up.

Hill County Extension Agent Colleen Pegar said 4-H is working on installing fire suppression systems in the 4-H Chuckwagon to bring the building up to required fire codes for the events held there.

Board member Bob Kaul said the fair also got bids on replacing the grounds' western bathrooms as well as estimates on the cost of improvements to the Bigger Better Barn's bathrooms, so they need to look at some of that.

He also said work is about to begin on the water lines that froze during the winter.

Beyond the more immediate concerns of the grounds, he talked about the the creation of a five-year plan for major projects on the grounds and said the Buildings and Grounds Committee is interested to hear from any public entity about what they think the fairgrounds needs that can be fit into the plan.

English said suggestions can emailed to [email protected].
