Local Golf Report: MSU-N golf teams finish in Idaho

From Tee to Green

The Montana State University-Northern men’s and women’s golf teams wrapped up the 2021-22 season last week.

The Lights and Skylights played at the Frontier Conference Championships in Eagle, Idaho, in cold and wintery conditions, too.

On the men’s side, the Lights finished in fifth place with a 1,156. The tournament was won by Rocky Mountain College, followed by Montana Tech, Providence and Carroll College. Montana Western was sixth.

Individually, T.J. Reynolds paced the Lights with a tie for 13th. Reynolds shot 77-88-79 for his best finish in three Frontier seasons. Gerit Johnson tied for 20th with a 263, while Ryan Williams finished 22nd with a 271 and Kyler Cassel was 26th with a 304.

In the women’s tournament, the Skylights finished in fourth place with a 1,359. Rocky finished first, followed by Carroll, Montana Tech, while Western finished fifth and Providence was sixth.

Megan VandenAcre placed 14th for the Skylights with a 288, while Jada Sudbrack was 21st at 349, Madison Underdog was 22nd at 356 and ShaAnn Danelson was 23d at 366.

The Class C and B golf seasons are also underway, though several tournaments in the area have had to be postponed due to the bad weather that has rolled in.

Speaking of the weather, recent events have certainly put a halt to golfing around our local courses. Last week’s cold and snow made it impossible to play golf, and last weekend’s storm dumped around 2.8 inches of snow on Havre, according to the National Weather Service in Great Falls. Make sure and call Pro Shops to find out what course conditions are moving forward. To get a team together, call Prairie Farms and or Beaver Creek Golf Course for more information.
