Hill County Sheriff Jamie Ross has asked people to remember that they are required by law to properly secure loads of trash being hauled to prevent littering.
A press release said people may be hauling more trash with spring weather in the area and spring cleaning and yard work occurring.
“We have noticed large amounts of trash on roads and in ditches leading to the landfill and to dumpsters in Hill County,” Ross said in the release. “Please help keep our community clean, do not overload the bed of your truck with debris and use trash bags, boxes, tarps, straps and (bungee cords) ensuring the load you are hauling is secure.”
Ross said failing to properly secure a load and littering in general can result in a citation. Conviction of the offenses may lead to both fines and jail time.
