Commission approves contract for new Marden Campground outhouse

Peterson thanks Mardens for years of support for Beaver Creek Park

At their weekly business meeting Thursday, the Hill County Commission voted unanimously on a contract with Frank Leeds Construction to build a concrete outhouse at the Marden Campground for $10,200.

Hill County Commissioner Diane McLean said half of the project will be covered with funds given to them by the Marden family, and the other half will be covered with insurance money the county obtained due to wind damage to the existing outhouse.

Hill County Commissioner Mark Peterson said the Marden family has helped fund a lot of things on the park over the years.

“I think we need to recognize that,” Peterson said, “That they have been a very strong supporter of Beaver Creek Park.”

The commission also voted unanimously to amend the Hill County Sheriff’s Office budget to allow for the acceptance two donations to the organization.

One was a $10,000 donation from the BNSF Railway Foundation for purchasing safety equipment, and the second was a $46 donation from Walmart’s Havre location to the sheriff’s office K9 program.

The commission also accepted the resignation of Hill County Deputy Clerk and Recorder Tina Salazar, who is running for Hill County Clerk and Recorder as a Democrat in this year’s elections against Hill County Deputy Clerk and Recorder Lexis Dixon, also a Democrat.

McLean read Salazar’s resignation letter, which said she was resigning to focus on her campaign.

The letter thanked Hill County Clerk and Recorder Sue Armstrong for her guidance, without which Salazar would not have run, the letter said.

“I look forward to being elected to the clerk and recorder’s position in the upcoming election,” McLean said, reading from Salazar’s letter.
