Grief Poem: Overcast

OH! What a day! So overcast outside and in my heart.

No Sun today - too many clouds, how does a good day start?

We can't see you; can you see us and watch us as we sleep?

That is a very special thought, it almost makes us weep.

Some days it seems you send a hug; we'd like to call you home!

You do send signs with friends and cards; we know we're not alone.

We may be wishing "days away," while picturing Heaven's gate.

The day will come when God calls us – "Home coming" will be great.

Can hardly wait 'til we see you with Jesus at your side.

He'll guide us through Heaven's great door, which we picture quite wide!

We've read that Heaven's beautiful – we can hardly wait to see.

So, while down here we'll live our life, once there, we will be free.

The clouds move on – the Sun peeks out! It's just that time of year.

The days fly by – we've things to do – one day we'll give a CHEER!

Do you watch us, morning or night – or hear as when we laugh?

And now and then, wish you were here, as we slice cake piece in half?

Our Father God created us – we are HIS children – YES!

His mighty arm is strong and true and all of us, He'll bless.

The overcast cleared up to blue; the night gave us some dew!

We think of you, remembering back, when off to Heaven you flew.

Our lives go on, without you dear, but nothing is the same.

We have to hide our heartache, when someone speaks your name.

Those special years will not return when we were together;

But with the love within our hearts, you walk with us forever.

Sad are the hearts that love you, dear, silent are tears that fall; Living down here without you dear, is the hardest part of all.
