Northern wrestling loses dual against University of Providence

With one last chance to compete before the postseason, the Montana State University-Northern wrestling team was looking to keep things rolling with a dual against University of Providence in Great Falls. But Thursday night in the McLaughlin Center, the Lights suffered an 18-16 loss in their dual against their rivals.

"All credit goes to UP, they were primed and ready. We lost several close matches and they were better prepared," MSU-N head coach Tyson Thivierge said. "Both teams showed up to this dual and they were the better team tonight."

The night did not start on the right foot for the Lights as they lost their first two matches to fall behind 6-0 in the dual. The Lights were able to work their way back into the dual with some match wins. After the dual was tied 9-9, Jordan Komac defeated MSU-N's Chase Short to give the Argos a 12-9 lead in the dual.

After the Lights won a match to tie the dual again, MSU-N wrestler Carl Hansen lost his match against Hayden Schrull. Wrestling in the 197-pound weight class, MSU-N's Isaac Bartel won his match to give the Lights a 16-15 lead in the dual. But in the final match of the night, MSU-N wrestler Rylan Moldenahuer lost his match to K.C. Buday, giving the Argos the 18-16 win in the dual.

With the loss, the Lights finish the regular season with an 8-3 record in their duals. The Lights and Argos also split their duals this season as the Lights won, 25-9, in a dual last November at Armory Gymnasium. They will try to put this loss behind them as they begin the postseason next weekend with the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament at Armory Gymnasium.
