The Class B-C wrestling landscape has changed recently with just two divisions, and the Eastern B-C, held Friday and Saturday in Colstrip was as tough as expected.
Fort Benton was the highest-finishing local team with 86 points, which was sixth place overall. Chinook finished in 10th place with 63 points, while Harlem was 16th with 20. Huntley Project rolled to the divisional championship with 288 points, while Glasgow was second and Columbus was third.
The Longhorns advanced six wrestlers to state, led by Brock Hanford, who win the heavyweight title with a pin of Chinook Wyatt Dunbar in the championship match. Trevor O'Hara added a third-place finish at 103 pounds, while Colter Ball was fourth at 182, Cade Ball finished fifth at 160 and Teagan Reimer took fifth at 126. Damian Out added an eight-place finish for the Longhorns was 205.
Dunbar was one of a pair of Sugarbeeters to reach the finals Saturday. Tyler Schoen gave Chinook a title with a win at 170 pounds. Schoen beat HP's Wylee Lindeen in the final, 7-4. Lane Snider also punched his ticket to state for the Beeters with a fifth-place finish at 145 pounds.
Harlem had three wrestlers in the field and advanced Landen Gray to the state tournament with a seventh-place finish at 132 pounds. Chester-Joplin-Inverness' Ryder Cole is also on his way to state with a sixth-place showing at 138 points.
All of the local wrestlers who placed at the Eastern B-C Divisional, plus all the local girls teams will move on to this week's All-Class State Tournament, Friday and Saturday in Billings.
