Hi-Line Boys Basketball Roundup
With the postseason right around the corner, Hi-Line boys basketball teams are looking to move up the standings and get themselves in the best possible position heading into the postseason. Last week, Hi-Line schools continued to play and demonstrate what they are capable of later in the season.
Hi-Line competition got started this past weekend with a District 9C matchup between the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks and the Box Elder Bears. In their first action in a few weeks, the Bears played well, but the Hawks ended the night with the 61-57 victory.
The Bears got off to a strong start as they led, 14-12, at the end of the first quarter. But the Hawks responded to take a 22-21 lead into halftime. While the Bears kept close through the second half, the Hawks held on for the win. Karson Pulst led the Hawks with 18 points while Blake and Kyle Harmon scored a combined 27 points. Gabe Saddler led the Bears with 15 points.
The Rocky Boy Stars and Harlem Wildcats then played each other Thursday night. The Stars set the tone early as they went on to win 77-62. At the end of the first quarter, the Stars led 25-13. But the Wildcats took momentum in the second quarter as they trailed, 40-38, at halftime. The Stars found their groove again in the second half as they pulled away for the win. On Friday night, the Box Elder Bears bounced back from Wednesday's loss as they won, 80-68, against the North Star Knights. The Bears got off to a hot start as they led, 30-13, in the first quarter, a lead they used to coast to victory the rest of the way.
