Havre High swim teams compete in double dual in Great Falls

This past Friday, the Havre High swim teams finished their season with a double dual in Great Falls. Both Blue Pony squads played in separate duals against Great Falls High School and CM Russell High School. The HHS boys team lost its dual against Great Falls but won against CM Russell. The HHS girls team lost both duals against Great Falls and CM Russell. However, HHS head coach Bill Kilgore believes many swimmers swam well.

“We swam real good times with lots of personal bests,” Kilgore said. “I thought we looked good heading into the last couple of weeks of training before state.”

In the boys dual, Great Falls scored 129 points to win as the Ponies scored 52 points. In the other boys dual, Havre scored 74 points to defeat CM Russell who scored 62 points. In one girls meet, Great Falls scored 178 points to win while the Ponies scored 96 points. In the other girls meet, CM Russell scored 176 points and Havre scored 102 points.

Several Ponies had strong performances Friday. Hiram Cammon continued his strong season as he placed second in the boys 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.91 and he took third in the boys 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.24. Wyatt Hagstrom also swam well as he took third in the boys 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.34 and he placed fifth in the boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.69.

Conner McKay had a strong performance for the Ponies as he placed fifth in both the boys 100-yard freestyle and the boys 100-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard freestyle, he finished with a time of 59.78 and in the 100-yard backstroke he recorded a time of 1:15.40. Koby Preputin finished sixth in the boys 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:23.08 and Nate Gregoire took sixth in the boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.75.

Several of the HHS boys relay teams also had success Friday. In the boys 200-yard medley relay, the HHS ‘A’ team took second with a time of 2:05.62. In the boys 400-yard freestyle relay, the HHS ‘A’ team took second with a finish of 4:13.85.

Many swimmers on the HHS girls team swam well this past weekend. Kyla Burchard took second in the girls 200-yard IM with a time of 2:46.04 and Mackenzie Dean took fourth in the girls 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:38.39.

The Ponies had success in the girls 100-yard breaststroke as Emma Lines took fourth with a time of 1:30.42 and Ada Pratt took sixth with a time of 1:36.85. They also had success in the girls 500-yard freestyle as Willow Riggin took fifth with a time of 7:28.97 and Jayla Meldrum took sixth with a finish of 7:30.22.

The HHS girls relay teams also showed well. In the girls 200-yard medley relay, the HHS ‘A’ team took third with a time of 2:21.30. In the girls 200-yard freestyle relay, the HHS ‘A’ team took fourth with a time of 2:09.92 and the HHS ‘B; team took sixth with a time of 2:18.06.

The Ponies will finish the regular season tonight when they hold a virtual meet and their senior night at the Havre Community Pool. They will then finish the season with the state meet in Great Falls from Feb. 11-12.
