News you can use
Sen. Daines, you are wrong. The voting rights bill is not what you claim it is, and, in fact, a majority of Americans support it. And please stop saying Democrats are trying to create a federal takeover of elections. Let’s not forget that “your guy,” yes, the former president, drafted an executive order to confiscate all voting machines and planned to use the National Guard to do so.
Voter ID? Please, don’t insult our intelligence. In your letter to the Havre Daily News published Jan. 21, you spent several paragraphs in utter outrage over something that isn’t even true. The proposed law would allow states to keep voter ID laws but would require standards for allowable identification. There is nothing wrong with setting a baseline for acceptable practices. With zero evidence of any significant voter fraud, 19 Republican-dominated states have already passed 33 laws making it more difficult to vote, or to turn over the counting of votes to partisan Republicans. These are your so-called “election integrity laws.”
Evidently. you and your staff did not take the time to read the voting rights bill. Your confusion over voter ID laws and “taxpayer money funding campaigns” is evidence of that. I suggest you go back and do your homework.
