Eagles holding fundraiser for family that lost home to fire

Event set for Friday at 6 p.m. will feature bingo and Indian taco sale

The Havre Eagles Club will be holding a bingo and Indian taco sale fundraiser Friday to raise money for the Jensen family, who lost their home to a fire in December.

Eagles Auxiliary President Candace Dess said the event will start a 6 p.m. at the Eagles Club, and they’re hoping to raise as much money as they can for the family, who is still looking for a home.

“They’ve been totally displaced,” Dess said. “... They pretty much lost everything.”

She said Eagles Club Member Dixie Geer came to her recently wanting to do something for the family and proposed setting up a bingo game to raise some money for them.

“She reached out and wanted to help,” Dess said.

She said they don’t really have an expectation for how much the event could make and they’re hoping to raise as much as they can for the family.

She said the organization’s normal bingo games are pretty well attended, and she’s hoping the event will draw a crowd.

“Our community really turns out for stuff like this,” Dess said. “ ... People want to help. Sometimes it just takes putting something together for them to show up, so I’m really excited.”

Dess and Geer both know the Jensen family and how much they lost in the fire which destroyed their home and most of their possessions, so the two are hoping to help them get back on their feet finically and hopefully have an easier time replacing what they lost.

The fire that destroyed the Jensen home happened two days after Christmas, starting in an RV and spreading to the house. No one was injured, but the RV was a total loss and the house sustained significant damage and much of the family’s possessions were destroyed.

Dess said the family is looking into a rental home and will know this week whether or not they get it.
