Musical Monty Python opening in Havre

The highly anticipated Montana Actors' Theatre production of "Monty Python's Spamalot" is finally hitting the stage.

The production, delayed for two weeks due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the area, opens Friday.

MAT Artistic Director Grant Olson said the troupe is strongly suggesting people wear masks to the production, which starts at 8 p.m. each night in The Little Theatre in Cowan Hall on the Montana State University-Northern campus.

The play is essentially "Monty Python and The Holy Grail" set to music. The play was written by Python's Eric Idle, who wrote the music for the production with John du Prez.

The play "retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.," a MAT promotional piece says, adding, "Did we mention the bevy of beautiful showgirls? The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs. The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight audiences as they search for the Holy Grail and 'always look on the bright side of life.'"

The play runs Friday and Saturday this week, and Feb. 3-5 and 10-12.
