Blue Ponies take duals against Great Falls and CMR

In between its busy tournament schedule, the Havre High wrestling team got the chance to compete in some duals Tuesday night in Great Falls. On the road, the Blue Ponies showed well as they defeated Great Falls, 39-27, and they defeated CMR, 33-32, in the duals.

The Ponies started the night with their dual against Great Falls High School. The dual itself began with Havre’s Matthew Lemer wrestling in the 113-pound weight class. He got the night started on the right note by pulling out a 2-0 decision to win the match and give Havre a lead in the dual.

But the next few matches did not go the Ponies’ way as Great Falls took the lead in the dual. At 120 pounds, Havre’s Carson Harris lost his match, 11-2. At 126 pounds, Colter Soloman got pinned by his opponent. Wrestling at 132 pounds for the Ponies, Jacob Kunz lost, 16-0, for a technical fall.

The Ponies were able to rebound in the next few matches. Tristan Stygles pinned his opponent as he wrestled at 138 pounds. Reinhardt Bold also earned a pin for the Ponies as he wrestled at 145 pounds. The Ponies then picked up another match when Landon Caplette won his match by forfeit.

Havre wrestlers won the next three matches by pins to extend the team lead. Kendall Pleninger pinned his opponent as he wrestled at 160 pounds. Coming off a first-place finish at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic this past weekend, Orion Thivierge pinned his opponent at 170 pounds. Kale VanCampen also continued his strong season as he won his match with a pin at 182 pounds.

The Ponies were unable to win their last two matches of the night. At 205 pounds, Randy Tommerup lost, 17-1, for a technical fall and Havre’s Pierce Caplette was pinned by his opponent at 285 pounds. Despite the late losses, the Ponies hung on to win the dual.

Havre continued its night with a tight dual against CMR. The Ponies fell behind early when Lemer lost, 3-0, as he wrestled at 113 pounds. Soloman then lost, 10-0, at 120 pounds. Harris helped the Ponies bounce back as he won, 9-6, over his opponent at 126 pounds. But Kunz was pinned by his opponent at 132 pounds.

Stygles and Bold were able to help out the Ponies over the next few matches. At 138 pounds, Stygles pinned his opponent and Bold won, 10-1, as he wrestled at 145 pounds. But in the next two matches, Havre’s Landon Caplette was pinned and Pleninger lost, 6-3.

Thivierge and VanCampen helped the Ponies take the lead with pins in their matches. Pierce Caplette lost, 5-2, at 205 pounds but Tommerup gave the Ponies the dual win when he pinned his opponent at 285 pounds.

The Ponies will return to the mats this weekend when they compete in the Class A Duals in Lewistown.
