Lights crown three champions at Colorado-Mesa tourney

After a successful dual against the rival Providence Argos, the Montana State University-Northern wrestling turned its attention to its first tournament of the season, and a new one at that.

This past weekend, Northern competed in the Colorado-Mesa Open, hosted by NCAA Division II UC-Mesa. The tournament featured a host of NCAA DII and DII teams, including Air Force, Northern Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State, Wyoming, and more, and the Lights more than held their own, crowning three champions.

At 141 pounds, former Havre Blue Pony Martin Wilkie won four matches to take first place, including wins over wrestlers from both Air Force and Wyoming.

The Lights doubled up at 174 pounds, as Rylin Burns took first place while NaKoda Siegel placed fourth. As expected, top-ranked Isaac Bartel was outstanding at 197 pounds, with a 4-0 record to finish first, including three wins by bonus points.

MSU-N looked strong at heavyweight as well, as the Lights got a third-place finish from former Havre standout Travis Adams, and a fifth place from veteran Rylan Moldenhauer.

The Lights return to tournament action this Sunday when they travel to the Spokane Open.
