NAMI Havre moves to new location

The Hill County Behavioral Health Local Advisory Council Monday discussed difficulties with current projects, Question. Persuade. Refer. training applications and the National Alliance on Mental Illnesses Havre’s new location.

NAMI Havre President Crystal Laufer said her organization is moving into a new space on the third floor of 408 First Street, a space that will allow them to run two or three classes at once and is shaping up to be a great new location.

Laufer said NAMI will also be having a conference at noon Wednesday about the psychiatric impact of cannabis use based on current evidence.

After the council discussed the applications for QPR training and decided to seek more people to apply, LAC Chair Andi Daniel spoke about current troubles with the Mental Health PSAs the council was hoping to create.

The council has long discussed putting together videos of local people talking about their mental health struggles in an effort to encourage people to seek help and generally destigmatize the issue.

But, Daniel said, things just aren’t coming together due to a lack of footage.

She said she’s hoping to use the stories that have been submitted to them by people who didn’t want to be on camera that can be used for voiceover, but the project is not in a good spot at the moment.

She said she’s also working on getting local providers signed up to be part of the mental and behavioral health services directory the council has been working on but needs to have the county attorney look at it to make sure they are not liable if one of the services in the directory is accused of malpractice or something of that nature.

Daniel said she is still encouraging providers to sign up to be in the directory or for people to suggest a provider.
