Costume controversy puts Havre High principal on leave

A controversial costume worn at Havre High School last Friday, the last day before Halloween, has left the school, at least temporarily, without Principal Ed Norman while the situation is investigated.

“The school district can confirm that the building principal is on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of the investigation,” Superintendent Craig Mueller said in an email this morning. “The school district will continue to honor staff and student privacy rights to the extent they are applicable as it works with legal counsel to handle this matter.”

The parent of a Havre High School student made a post on Facebook saying a student wore a racially insensitive costume and the response of the school administration was inappropriate.

The parent declined to comment to Havre Daily News.

Mueller said he cannot comment further while the incident is investigated.
